Z Nation is a new Zombie Survival Show that premiered this week on SyFy.
Obviously Everyone will compare this show to AMC’s The Walking Dead. This is a little unfair as there’s a HUGE difference in Budget $$ between the 2, so I will be reviewing this show for what it is.
The First thing to remember is that Z Nation is Produced by Asylum (The same folks behind Sharknado etc..) so I went in with VERY low expectations.
Now the show is nowhere near the level of The Walking Dead, but I found myself enjoying it for several reasons.
The Acting I expected to be atrocious, but it actually was not too bad! they got several Solid actors such as Harold Perrineau (Of Lost and OZ fame), Tom Everett Scott ( An American Warewolf in Paris) and D.J. Qualls (Road Trip, Legit) while the supporting cast did a solid job as well.
The biggest difference Between the Zombies here and in the Walking Dead is these Guys are REALLLY Fast!
Let’s put it this way, if Usain Bolt Gets Bitten, we’re all screwed!
“Show me where the Brains at!”
The Special effects are nowhere near the quality of other network shows but the zombies are done well enough, especially when you’re just gonna blow em’ up anyway!
“Um, I asked for white meat, Not a Leg”
The Story is Basic and easy to understand, yet gives the survivors a purpose. A Scientist was performing tests on Prison inmates to see if any would work against the Zombie infection, the Last one administered did work as he survived a grisly Zombie attack, and now Commander Hammond (Perrineau) Needs to escort him to California in the hope that the cure to the Zombie outbreak is in his blood
“I’m a walking Zombie all you can eat platter”
Through some Zombie rampages our group meets up with several others along the way and we get our core travelers for the series.
“There’s no Crying in Baseball”
The episode is good at keeping the action rolling at a non-stop pace and has plenty of Zombie Kills to keep the hardcore Zombie enthusiast happy throughout.
Near the end of the episode our Heroes come across an abandoned Baby.
The Survivors argue about what the hell they are going to do with a baby, but with Z Nation, you don’t need to concern yourself with that for too long, cause this show doesn’t mind being a little crazy…
Spoiler Alert
That Cute baby turns into a super speedy little Zombie tot!
And just for good measure the now super fast Zombie baby Kills the Assumed Leading man (Perrineau) in Grisly fashion.
“Billy you spit that out of your mouth right now young man!”
This show has definitely stolen ideas from other franchises, and if you’re not into Zombies all that much it may not be your cup of tea, but if you want a Fast paced, silly, yet very entertaining Zombie apocalypse show to sink your teeth into you should give Z Nation a look.

Summary
Z Nation is a poor man’s Walking dead, but with non-stop action and several surprises it is a lot of fun if you go in without high expectations
